^Lot 4012 COLT MODEL 1861 SPECIAL NEW JERSEY MARKED RIFLE

MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl 40" rnd with oct shank. Fixed front sight with folding leafs musket style rear sight. Left bbl flat is marked "NJ". Top bbl flat has "1862" date. Lock is dated "1863" with "U.S." over Colt address markings on forward portion of lock. Three band fastened walnut stock with iron fittings having proper style ramrod and leather sling. Left stock ear is stamped "N.J". Estimated quantity of 75,000 mfg 1861-1865. CONDITION: bbl, lock and fittings show evidence of heavy polishing with some remaining pitting. Bolster has partially remaining American eagle. Sanded and refinished stock shows scratches and marks with cracks behind the lock and through the right side of the butt. Sound lock. Lightly pitted bore retains sound rifling. (01-28569/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
